Our Speaker for May 25th Meeting
Steven Chavez, President, Oracle Community Center
Born and raised in the copper town of San Manuel Az.
After finishing school went to work at the hometown Copper Company. After 21 years of service the copper company was shut down and was offered a retraining program. After completing a course in barbering landed a job in Oracle and stayed in the tri-community I grew up in. After 18 years of service, I decided I needed to give back to the community that had supported me for so many years. Oracle Community Center has an annual Oak's Festival and is always looking for volunteers and so I decided that this was something I could do. After my first year of volunteering, I was asked to become a Board member, after a few months I was told that I needed to become their President. For the last three years I have enjoyed working with the board and giving back to the tri-community I grew up in. I reside in Catalina, but I look forward to my work and volunteerism back in the community I grew up in.
