At our club meeting this week, April 18, we will be adding to our weekly Zoom at Noon meeting format a limited "in-person" get together at Saddlebrooke One Clubhouse. Here is how it will work.
Those who would like to begin meeting in person can gather at the Roadrunner Grill beginning around 11:00- 11:15 am to enjoy fellowship. Our members, by a substantial majority, voiced their preference that for the next 2 months the club adopt a policy that requires participants in the in-person meeting to have completed the Covid vaccination program. We agreed that this restrictive policy would be reevaluated prior to June 1. Following lunch and beginning at 12:00 Noon we will open an in-person meeting in the back of the Agave lounge area. There will be no service at that time. We will also link in the Zoom at Noon meeting in a Hybrid meeting format. Our program at the regular meeting on Thursday will feature Julie Funk, DVM, MS, PhD. Dr. Funk is the Dean of the University of Arizona School of Veterinary Medicine. Her presentation will is titled "Unlike Any Other: University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine".
Dr. Funk is a 1991 graduate of the Michigan State veterinary college. She earned a master’s degree in veterinary clinical sciences from the University of Illinois in 1996 and her doctorate in comparative biomedical sciences from North Carolina State University in 2002. Dr. Funk is a passionate veterinary leader dedicated to helping students reach their goals and joyful work.
Our program last week was presented by Doug Moseke and Joanna Bradley from the Arizona Department of Transportation. Doug and Joanna will bring our members and guests the latest planning information about ADOT's 5 year plan as it affects Southern Arizona.
At our meeting on Thursday, April 8, our featured guest speaker was James Horvath, founder and CEO of Town West Realty.
Established in 1980, Town West Companies are a conglomerate of real estate investment, development, and property management firms. TWR, Inc. and its affiliate companies own, operate and manage a significant real estate portfolio including approximately 2 million square feet of commercial/retail/office property, multi-family residential, and future development projects in Arizona.
Jim shared with us plans for The Marketplace, Oro Valley. This substantial property was purchased by Jim's group in 2019.

DICK EGGERDING FOR 28 YEARS ORO VALLEY’S ART/CULTURE/HISTORY AMBASSADOR Since 1991, Dick Eggerding has been a part of the Planning and Development of Oro Valley in the areas of Arts and Culture, Parks and Land Use, Historic Preservation and Education. For sure, he does not take undo credit for the ultimate success of these areas, but rather enjoys being a part of and creator of some of the ongoing entities.
On March 25th members and guests enjoyed The Tucson Museum of Art and Christine C. Brindza.
Christine C. Brindza serves as Senior Curator and Curator of Art of the American West at the Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block in Tucson, Arizona. Before her tenure at the Tucson Museum of Art, she acted as curator at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming. Christine has a Master of Arts degree in Archival, Museum, and Editing Studies and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from Duquesne (Due-kane) University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is currently pursuing coursework toward a PhD at the University of Arizona. She is passionate about making art accessible to all ages and backgrounds, reaching audiences outside of museum boundaries, and fostering appreciation of art for generations to come.

Arizona Historical Society Education Team Lead and Museum Educator
Jaynie Adams is the Education Team Lead statewide for the Arizona Historical Society and Museum Educator at the Arizona History Museum in Tucson. She holds an MA in history from the University of Arizona and is privileged to work in Tucson, her hometown. Jaynie is one of AHS’ team of staff historians; her work as a historian is rooted in a place-based practice where she critically explores race, place, and belonging in the American Southwest. Her work as a museum educator centers on diversity, inclusion, and inquisitivity.
At our meeting on March 11, 2021 members reviewed a presentation on Rotary's new Strategic Action Plan.

The Saddlebrooke community is blessed to have organizations such as Saddlebrooke Rotary and Saddlebrooke Senior Village, not to mention the Desert Life Pharmacy.
What a year we have had. Thanks in a large part to Saddlebrooke Senior Village and Desert Life Pharmacy we are fast approaching full vaccination of our members, and we are now looking forward to once again meeting each other in person. One of the great lessons learned has been the inclusive benefits of having a virtual meeting option. We call ours Zoom at Noon. During the Covid pandemic our club has been able to maintain active participation through this format, continuing to average about 30 participates per meeting.
We are developing alternative meeting options that may include hybrid (in-person and virtual) meetings, alternative meeting sites and other meeting upgrades. In the weeks that follow we hope to begin limited in-person meetings which are consistent with safe Covid guidelines. We are hopeful that by the beginning of the next Rotary year, July 1, 2021 we will be again meeting in person, but with the addition of Zoom access at the same time.
Mark your calendars for a Celebration on Thursday, July 1, 2021(in person) as we Pass the Gavel to our next president, Liese Razzeto.

I heard from John Ruland. John has recovered well from his heart procedure and he and champion, the Kid are off on a hunting trip.
We would LOVE to see all our members on Zoom. The hard part is getting the FREE app and set up your smartphone, iPad, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. After that, it's easy. Our Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke was able to fund, shop, assemble and deliver these "Baskets of Love" full of laundry detergent & softener, cleaning supplies, sponges, ziploc bags, foil, toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, kleenex, clorox wipes, and some little tokens of love - jelly beans, hershey kisses, and a cake with frosting!

My journey into health and wellness began in 1997 when I started receiving massage while working as a paralegal and competing as a cyclist. Faced with the demands of working full time and training for bike races, massage therapy proved to be a vital component to relieve stress and maintain a healthy body for competition. Inspired by the tremendous benefits, I made the decision to pursue a career in massage therapy.
I graduated from the 1000 hour program at the Desert Institute of the Healing Arts (DIHA) and have been a licensed massage therapist since December, 2000. Following graduation, I continued training through numerous continuing education programs and seminars which included Neuromuscular Therapy, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Ayurvedic Therapy, Hot Stone Massage, and Body Wraps.
As I worked with my massage clients, I realized nutrition played an integral part in how our bodies respond and heal. After many years of studying nutrition on my own, I began studying at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and in December of 2013, I became a Certified Health Coach.
During my training, I studied over 100 dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts. My teachers included Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; Geneen Roth, bestselling author and expert on emotional eating; and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities.
My education has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to work with my clients to help them make lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results.
Two members of the Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke participated in the first RYLA Online. Liese Razetto served as a Adult Advisor and Barbara Barr served on the committee that developed RYLA Online and also served as an Adult Advisor. The Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke also sponsored 3 Delegates to RYLA. Due to COVID 19, RYLA was held online this year.
The Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke Continues It's Award Winning Tradition
Past District Governor, Ellie Patterson, presented our club with a Presidential Citation for 2019-2020. We are thrilled that our club was honored at the highest level, which is platinum. SaddleBrooke was the highest scoring club in District 5500.
Rotarians from Saddlebrooke and their guests were treated to a remarkably interesting presentation by Dave Perry, President of the Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce during their regular meeting on Thursday, February 11, 2021. Perry himself a former Rotarian reviewed the many exciting developments and initiatives that residents and visitors to Oro Valley will see in the future.
One such development that Perry discussed was the Town West Realty's multi-purpose development in the Marketplace at the southwest corner of Oracle Road and Tangerine Road. He also spoke of the new University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine located in the Foothills Business Park across from Steam Pump Ranch on Oracle Road.
Perry emphasized the need for improvements in Oracle Road as the rapid growth in Oro Valley and other communities has significantly affected this important arterial road in northern Pima County.
District 5500 has asked us all to stay in touch and meet though Zoom, if needed. The hardest part is signing up, and that's not too bad! However, if you need help to get this set up, please just let Barbara Barr know! We'd be happy to even come to your home and help! Here's how you do it!
2. When you are on the Zoom homepage, go to the upper righthand corder and click on the blue button that says: "SIGN UP, IT'S FREE"
3. A new page will open that will ask for your email address. Fill in your correct email address and click on the blue button that says: "SIGN UP"
4 Another new page will open that tells you they have sent you an email. Check your email!
5. In your email, find your message from Zoom. Open the email and click on the blue button that says: "Activate Account"
6. Another new page will open. Fill in your name and make a password. After you confirm your password, click on the orange button that says: "Continue"
7. Another new page will open asking you to invite people to Zoom. If you are not going to invite colleagues, family or friends, then click on the white button on the lower right corner that says: "Skip this step". If you are comfortable with technology and want to use Zoom to communicate with friends and family or hold meetings, follow the directions from Zoom.
8. Another new page will open. If you are just wanting to use this program to attend Rotary meetings, you are DONE.
NOTE: You will receive an email from Zoom when we have a meeting. The email will give you a date and time of the meeting. It will also give you a link to the meeting. Put the date and time on your calendar, and SAVE THE EMAIL! When it's time for the meeting, you just go back to the email about the meeting, and click on the link to the meeting. Zoom will ask you about using your audio and microphone. Just click on "YES" and enjoy the meeting.
