Obituary

William H. Pohnert, M.D.

William "Dr. Bill" Pohnert, age 81, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022. He was born on December 23, 1940 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Madaline (nee Rebbe) and Harvey H. Pohnert. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (nee James); children, Tami Pohnert, Steven (Annie)  Pohnert , and Todd Pohnert; sister, Ann (Cletus) Denoyer ; and several nieces and nephews.

Dr. Bill was a retired Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon.  He earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, with internship at Western Michigan University and residency at Fort Wayne Medical. He practiced in Kokomo, Indiana for 35 years, served as a physician in the Navy, and made multiple trips to Haiti as a volunteer physician.

He was a dedicated member of Vista de la Montaña United Methodist Church, where he was a Certified Lay Pastor, a Stephen Minister and a member of the choir. He was a 32nd degree Mason, and an active member of Rotary International.

One of the greatest joys of Dr. Bill and Patricia’s life together was hosting five exchange students – four from Germany and one from Switzerland. The friendships formed remain close to this day. Dr. Bill loved music and toured Europe with the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club and Youth for Understanding
