Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI)The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a multi-district leadership and Rotary development program using facilitation in small groups to engage Rotarians and strengthen clubs. RLI is a recommended program of Rotary International but is not an official program of Rotary International. RLI seeks to provide quality education, leadership skills and Rotary knowledge to club members interested in developing their Rotary participation and their leadership potential.
Our Mission: The Rotary Leadership Institute is a grassroots, multi-district leadership development program whose mission is to strengthen Rotary clubs through quality leadership education.
The mission of the District 5500 Rotary Leadership Institute is to provide an up-to-date, practical, and user-friendly educational opportunity in a convenient online or in-person format. Courses are provided to foster leadership skills and Rotary knowledge with the intent to inspire club members to be enthusiastic, informed, creative and dedicated leaders.
Being a great leader is about having a willingness and a true commitment to lead others to achieve a common vision and goals through positive influence. Leadership is about people and for people. As Rotarians, we are leaders. In our clubs, in our communities, in our professions, and in our lives.
At RLI, our purpose is to provide access to the tools, knowledge, and skills to build better leaders for today’s world.
What are the Courses?
The Rotary Leadership Institute consists of three half-day, online or in-person courses:
Course 1: My Rotary World
- My Leadership in Rotary
- My Rotary World
- Ethics and Vocational Service
- Foundation: Our Foundation
- Creating Service Projects
Course 2: The Club
- Planning for Success
- Attracting and Engaging Members
- Club Communication
- Team Building
- Effective Leadership Strategies
Course 3: My Rotary Journey
- Rotary Opportunities
- Foundation: Targeted and International Service
- Public Image & Public Relations
- Building A Stronger Club
- Making a Difference
Where are the courses held?
In 2024, Course 1 and Course 2 will be offered, and the plan is to offer all three courses in 2025.
Course 1: Sat., April 27, 2024 8:45 am – 12:15 pm via Zoom
Course 1 and Course 2 will also be provided in person at the annual District Conference of Clubs (October 11 and 12, 2024). More information to come.
Who facilitates the training?
Experienced District Leaders, RLI, and RLA graduates will facilitate the course sessions. Each facilitators’ depth of knowledge and passion for Rotary will keep the sessions fresh and interesting for participants. In addition, the curriculum will be augmented by asking participants to take specific courses in the Rotary International Learning Center. These courses can be taken at the participants’ personal convenience.
Rotary Leadership Institute Graduates – Please Consider Serving on the RLI Faculty
If you have completed all three parts of RLI and are interested in being a facilitator, please contact RLI District 5500 Co-Chairs: Wanda Bailey (wandaleebailey@gmail.com) or Wendy Davis (davisw@cochise.edu)
Who should attend?
RLI participants should have a strong interest in Rotary and a desire to learn about the larger world of Rotary. Clubs are encouraged to send at least one or two members each year and support their member participants in completing the full three course Institute and by helping with registration fees (if any). Presidents-Elect are also an excellent choice so that they are ready for their year as President. New Rotarians who show an interest in taking RLI courses are also welcome and report that the courses are very beneficial.
What is the cost?
There is not cost for the online course, which includes an electronic copy of all course materials.
Why should our club participate?
District 5500 leadership knows that every Rotary Club in Southern Arizona cares about its future growth, engagement, and vibrancy and wants the best leadership possible. Participating in the RLI training is an outstanding opportunity for each club to “grow” its future leaders and enhance knowledge of our Rotary world. At the very least, the exchange of ideas with other experienced Rotarians and the opportunity to network with other Rotarians and make long-lasting Rotary friendships make the courses worthwhile.
To Register:
Course 1: Sat., April 27, 2024, 8:45 am – 12:15 pm
To express interest in attending the in-person Course 1 and/or Course 2 at the District Conference in October, please indicate your interest in attending by clicking on the below link. You will receive communications about RLI and how to register for these specific sessions.
